On 10/1 and 10/2 several of our volunteers took part in a class hosted by the Plainville (NY) Fire Department. The big water class offered classroom and practical training on the principles and effectiveness of moving large quantities of water, sometimes over large distances. As we have a large portion of our fire district (Baldwinsville and Lysander) that are without municipal water, we do have to account for operations in those areas. That includes spending 16 hours on a weekend to train. The training included starting tankers and pumpers capable of providing large quantities of water, learning how to efficiently set-up operations to receive the water and ultimately how to make best use of it. These operations are a stark contrast to simply hooking up to a hydrant. We thank the Plainville (NY) Fire Department for hosting and inviting us to the event. As we work closely with them, this type of training can only benefit our joint operations and in the end, those we're here to protect.
